Yeah I know, first games and now music. Don't worry, I won't ask about some of my more erm... interesting... hobbies.

I've been writing music for years and I'm just now getting into recording / producing (for the electronic parts) some of my songs. I have an M-Audio external sound card (hate it, randomly cuts out too much) and I use Audition 3 to record guitars and bass (hate it, crashes too much,) Guitar Rig 3 to do guitar effects (love it) and Orion for electronic drums, synths, and doing the final mix (decent.)

I guess my style is kind of newer punk rock influenced but I do a lot with synths and acoustics and random bleeps and bloops as well so in the end it's not really that close to what people think of when they think punk (a lot of people say it sounds like video game music would if it was made into rock.)

I still need to find a singer though, one thing I simply cannot do is sing.

Anywhere I set up a Myspace so if anyone is interested in taking a listen...

Anyone else have any music projects going on?

I studied to be a concert pianist/ choral conductor in school. However my body couldn't keep up with the rigorous practice and performance schedule needed. Now I do it as my side-job, i.e., playing/conducting for community and church groups.

I was pretty good at composition, too. But I just got out of the habit of it once I got tied to my laptop for work. (Punching things out on keyboard and piano were just too similar!) Mostly, I write musicals now, where I write the script and staging (and set design) and choose existing songs for the music part.

I play the piano as a hobby, but haven't really done many examinations or things like that. I can play the occasional big piece (like Beethoven's Pathetique, and a few other smaller Sonatas) reasonably well however, as well as a good bit of Scott Joplin.

For what it's worth, my degree is a "Bachelor of fine arts in music education grades K-12 with an emphasis on band and orchestra instruments". :)

Trumpet was my primary performance instrument, and I used to be pretty good on the French horn, too, and maybe intermediate level on the piano. I still play my trumpet and cornet (http://charles-reace.com/Photos/index.php?album=Musical+Instruments) for personal entertainment, and was lucky enough to get my parents' piano when they moved to a smaller house. I got the Sibelius music notation (http://www.sibelius.com/home/index_flash.html) program a few years ago and messed around with it for awhile, but never got really proficient with it and have not done much with it at all in the last couple of years. :(

These days I seem to spend more effort on listening to music, trying to tweak the most out of my sound system (http://charles-reace.com/Hobbies/Music_System/) without an unlimited budget. (Yes, I still play vinyl records. In fact, I still buy them when available: you can find a lot at www.musicdirect.com.)

sounds a bit like me. i'm a band director. i'm a composer/arranger (i almost wrote the score for a play and a movie, but both fell through.) you can check out my music at http://kayeskinner.com. i used to be in a punk rock band. i'm a freelance accompanist (a.k.a. i play whenever the choir directors at the school or at church need me to.) i also have a large vinyl collection and an almost 22,000 track digital collection (in the music profession you can write these things off on your taxes ;))

yeah, i've spent some time at the music books. pain to learn, joy to live.

Wow - impressive! You must have the perfect piano hands. All those octaves were a major problem for me, especially in rapid succession.

It used to be my job. 24 years worth.

I play guitar...or I should say used to...don't have the time anymore. Used to play metal like Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden. Later I got into classical guitar...I can still play some small pieces like Beethovens Moonlight Sonata....I really do love classical guitar. Its another world being encompassed in music your own hands are creating.

I still play from time to time trying out some new hit on the radio :) Always funny to try and play something that was never meant to be played on guitar.

Yes, I'm pretty lucky in that regard, I can reach a 9th very comfortably and a 10th if needed so octaves aren't really an issue. My technique could do with a little improvement though, I'm often too lazy to practice enough at good dynamic control and stuff.
