Hello,
I need to get some input/suggestion in regards to what technology I should concentrate on. I am a programmer with several years of experience in a procedural language, who is trying to make a switch to .NET. At this point, I've done some work with developing websites in ASP.NET w/ C# as well as C# applications. I have used AJAX as well as javascript in my work and believe that my degree of knowledge is competent-expert.
What I am struggling with right now is that, I would like to find a new job, but not sure what I should concentrate on, Web or application development. Looking at the job market in my area, there aren't very many .NET web development jobs (mostly PHP). Also seems like everyone and their mom is a .net web developer here (silicon valley). I can always get into application development, but many companies are looking for developers at a senior level. I understand that regardless of which way I go, I will get a pay cut as I am getting to know the technology.
I am hoping that I can get some insight from the BMs in this forum to help me with my decision. Here is what I'm looking for:
1) What made you decide to get into your technology?
2) What drove you during the learning process?
3) Any other advise you'd like to share?
