I am an American born US Citizen, I will be moving to Canada after the first of the year...how hard will it be to set up shop (legally) in Canada? I have no felonies, but not a very large net worth. I rent, and am a one man show, so I don't have any large assets at this time. If anyone can give me any insight into this, or know of a great place to work (lol), please give me some guidance. TIA!

I know its stupidly easy for citizens to do so. In fact, I think its rated by the world bank as the second easiest country in the world to operate a business.
As far as Im aware, legality is slightly different, depending which territory/state you set up in. I would be inclined to visit and choose your potential area first. For example, toronto would seem ideal for business, but for myself personally, it looks far too depressing.
I think this is the fact in most territories, but if you set up as a sole proprietor, you assume all responsibility for the business, as they consider it an extension of yourself. However on the plus side, if you set up under your own name there are very little costs, you dont have to register the business legally and you can declare your business tax on your personal tax form. The advantage of that would mean non of your deductibles and expenses would be taxed at all.
