TraceMonkey represents "performance improvements ranging between 20 and 40 times faster in some cases." This will be coming in Firefox 3.1, releasing soon.

Safari 4 is coming with SquirrelFish, a similar project, and Chrome has already included V8, their javascript compiler. The days look good for Ajax development!
