I have an idea for a site which may turn out to be quite well known and successful (I hope!) but I am worried that my domain name will go up in price after it runs out.

So in a hypothetical situation, say I set up facebook.com and bought a one year registration for £6 or whatever and by the time it was up for renewal I had a million users and international advertising, would it still be £6 to renew? could I just go direct to nominet at that point and buy the domain for myself? or would I end up paying thousands of pounds just to keep the name?

Please help!

No, the price isn't based on the success of the site (though that's an interesting idea...). So if you have a vendor that sells (rents) you the domain for £6/year, then that's what you'd pay. There isn't a place you could just go to "buy the domain for myself" if I'm understanding the question. You have to pay the renewal fees yearly, or you can typically pay for 10 years at a time, maximum.

Thanks that pretty much answers my question.
