I posted here instead of in Website Reviews, because it's only one page and not the whole website.

I finally finished working on the first page, and wanted to get your thoughts and suggestions on what else I can do to make this page look as nice as possible. Just remember, I need EASY, since I'm not a web developer.:)

The page passed html and css validation, but I did get a warning on the css validation about color and background color being the same. How do I correct that?

I do have my heart set on the black and gold color scheme, but am open for suggetions.

I also wanted to know your opinion on my "Contact" link (not working yet). Is it okay to just have the link go straight to the mail program, or should I have a contact us page?

Here's the link to the page:

Thanks again,

Frankie

Looks pretty good. Clean and on-focus. You might want to consider a fancier font than Times, but not a huge deal if you like it.

The only oddity I found was that your links seem to have a slight twinkling effect with the gold on black. The bolded text atop doesn't, so you might want to see what the links look like if bolded? Up to you though.

And as a Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates fan, I must give kudos for a black and gold theme.

Thanks for your quick reply! I would like a fancier font, and I will try to work on it and figure it out on my own, if I have problems, I'll be back! Same with the links, I'll bold them and see what happens. I don't see the twinkling effect you mention, but then again, I'm not very observant! LOL

I hope to be able to work on it later this evening.....

Thanks again,

Frankie

PS: I like the black and gold because I'm a New Orleans Saints Fan! And also because I think the colors compliment the color of the dogues.

The Saints are cool too.

Twinkling may not have been the best description for the links, and it could simply be my monitor, but just thought I'd mention it. Good luck with the rest of your site.

A suggestion was made for me to use a fancier font for my headings; any suggestions on which fonts to use?

Thanks,

Frankie

Looking better! A couple notes:

Your "topnav" div is set to 100%, though with all the various borders and such, it can't possibly be 100%. Thus it's getting mashed up against the right border of your contents div. You might try it at 95% or so and see if that helps.

The dog photo - I would try to find one where the dog's legs aren't cut off, if possible. Both photographically it's a no-no, and also from the breeder's perspective I'd think it would be appropriate to show the whole dog.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your advice. I changed the top nav div to 95%, and I see what you were talking about.

I also changed the picture....how does the new one look?

I will pass along your photographic advice to my husband; he's the one who takes all the pictures. I know sometimes when he is taking the pics, he wants to highlight the head, or chest, etc, how would you suggest he do this? (or should I join a photograper's forum for this info?:p)

Happy Thanksgiving!

Much better!

Regarding photos, I can certainly appreciate wanting a head shot, or something that shows the strong chest of these dogs. On the previous one though, you just cut off the dogs legs halfway through, which gives an odd look (left me wondering how tall the breed was, why the legs were cut off, etc) especially on the home page where I'd expect a full view as your text describes the wonderfulness of the breed.

A head shot can be much closer (http://www.pixf.com/events/081108NADAC/slides/dm_117664.html) and a head/chest shot I find is good with the front legs (http://www.pixf.com/events/081108NADAC/slides/dm_117675.html), but other than those two, I think I don't shoot any other "partial dog" shots. Of course this is all one person's opinion, and your husband is welcome to disagree!

Dave, my husband says "Thank You" for those tips...he'll keep them in mind next time he takes pics.

I'm working on my "Contact Us" page, and would like to center the name, address, phone number, etc. I can't figure out how to get it done. I've been searching all over the internet, but I guess I'm not using the correct search phrase, because I'm not coming up with anything close to what I'm looking for. Can you tell me how to do that?
