I'm looking for some small examples of XBRL or GRI in action if anyone has any that can share.

I'm not aware of any small examples, unfortunately, but you can find some here - http://www.xbrl.org/Demos/

Note that some of the sites, such as the Deutsche Borse site listed, use AJAX, so you'll need JavaScript turned on temporarily if you have it disabled.

Edit: Only the Deutsche Borse demo works right now. The others either don't exist anymore, or they are offline.

Thank you rpgfan3233. Unfortunately, I've already seen this page, and only one link works, and its not as helpful as I would like. If you (or anyone else) knows of any other examples I would really appreciate seeing them. (especially if you have GRI examples)
