This may be a stupid question, but this is all new to me.
My company is developing a site using ASP.NET (I'd prefer PHP, which I'm more familiar with, but they want to use .net). So, I went onto w3school and started reading a tutorial... but it suggested knowing XML first (I'm somewhat familiar with the structure, but not much).
Before getting too heavily into learning XML/XSLT, is there any reason to use XML over a standard SQL database? They seem like they both provide very similar functions. Am I wrong, am I missing something here?
Anyway, is it worth spending the time studying and learning this... especially if we're just going to use a SQL db anyway? Should I know XML and XSLT for any particular reason?
Thanks for any insight into this.
