Can you do something with mjxads.internet.com or whatever your other site is called.

I am fed up of seeing this site (webdeveloper) stall or refuse to load because of that URL (mjxads) waiting for IT to send the data to my PC.

The amount of traffic that I am burning to get this site to load up is pushing me to ban that URL because it is responsible for the 34% increase in my traffic usage. £10 per gig does not sound allot but when you have to pay per bit IN & OUT... it gets costly to view this site.

My testing indicates that the URL in question is the main cause of issues and my temporary block on that URL has increased the speed and reliability of delivery.

I would appreciate the development team dealing with this issue and possible considering hosting the adverts on the same domain as webdeveloper to ease these issues.

I have pursued the matter with "3" who supply my broadband and they are adamant that its not their network but your website that's the issue.

So please humor me, if you eliminate this issue and it turns out what you do makes no difference, I can at least go back to "3" and call them a bunch of liars.

I'm afraid that's out of our hands. The majority of the adverts are not hosted by us, nor created by us. That domain you mention is merely where the targeting/randomizing code is located.

Do you want to email Peter Hegedus about it because I feel that theirs an issue and my current temporary ban on that URL has proven to me at least that theirs an issue with that domain.

Jupitermedia is owner of both domains, so I do not see how you can not do anything about it, the very least you should have some email addresses to people who can investigate such problems???

"mjxads" is a sub-domain through which the ads are channeled. Where they originate is not related to us. As previously stated, it's out of our hands. Peter Hegedus would also tell you the same thing.

Well I emailed him regardless.

Given the time difference, the email was in his inbox first thing yesterday.

I am assuming that my message got through because today I have not experienced any issues with the URL in question.

In future when someone indicates a problem, it does not hurt to have that issue bubbled. Simply telling people that a situation is out of your hands is not the way to do things (in my books), I am not a person to ***** and moan about something without just cause, you can be assured that if I do complain about something I have done everything I can to resolve the situation myself as well as troubleshooted the issue to the point I can not get anywhere with it myself and I then bring it to the attention whoever is in charge.

I don't want people thinking that I'M being off with them but like most people, I do not appreciate being fobbed off. Had the reply come back, "We will look in to it" with the assurance that it would have, I would have left it in the board admins hands and waited to see what happens.

As it stands at the moment, the situation may have been resolved, we will soon see over the next week or so.

Ciao.

You were not fobbed off, you were told the truth. The exact truth, as a matter of fact. If we had said "we will look into it" we would have been lying. The domain you mentioned is merely a portal, where the randomizing code exists, and the ads coming into our system are funneled. Hardly any of our adverts are hosted by us, pretty much limited to in-house ads, which are few and far between.

Meh. (Now a word, BTW as featured on Yahoo news)

I have raise the question of the service from that URL and I am experincing issues, I can only moan about it here. If you can furnish me with a contact for that portal, like the adserver admin, I will gladly give them something to think about.

I sent a note to the folks that handle our ads--however, as stated above, likely there isn't anything that can be done about it. Your note is not taken lightly, it's just that some issues are out of our hands--literally it's the way that most ads are served on the web on the majority of sites.

Let me also step in and clarify --

I agree that a response from a company that "we cannot do anything" is not appropriate and is definitely the wrong message to be sent. As indicated, at a minimum, an issue can be communicated internally. That alone is something more than nothing. Joe and Lee do in fact communicate such issues.

Going farther, there are those internally that can inform the ad agency serving an ad that it is causing certain reproducable issues. We often cannot fix the ad ourselves since we don't have access to the ad code, but we can ask that it be fixed by the serving agency.

When we get repoducable reports of issues, we do make requests that they be fixed. The editors that run this site on a daily basis (like Joe and Lee) can't really fix the ad themselves, but they can -- and do -- report issues internally that do get bubbled up to the right people.

Like many of you, we also use our own forums, so when an ad messes things up, we usually feel the pain too.

Hopefully the above ad has been resolved. I'm sure there will be future ad issues, and when they happen, do tell us. If you can tell us which ad you believe caused the issue, that helps a lot. If you can include the source from the page, then we can really hone in on the issue and get it booted or request its fix the fastest.

Thanks,

Brad!

Now you can't say it hasn't been addressed... Scott and Brad responded themselves! You never see them on here! I actually never even knew of Brad until just now... The Senior Executive Editor!? Now you know your issue made it to the top! ;):p
