I read in Barrons Magazine about Microsofts little ;) issue of being sued for stealing patented coding from other comapnies and incorporating it into Microsoft's Internet Explore Browser.
So this led me to wonder what will Microsoft do next? Will they fess up to their wrongdoings and do what they should have done earlier and make a cooperative agreement with the various companies or are they gonna find some way to weasel out of their responsibilities and attempt to make current and future user pay just so they can have functioning sites?
Now naturally one would say that Microsoft cannot make their customers pay for the transgressions that they (Microsoft)created, that is the most logical assertion and under normal conditions, this would hold true, however...this is Microsoft we are talking about, the same company that tried to force makers of other operating platform makers to include IE (Internet Explorer) as part of the function of the operating system instead of having it merely as an option available to users.
So this will be interesting to see what will happen as we all will be affected by resulting decisions....I can only hope that Microsoft treads carefully for if they do something really stupid, many will dump IE and Windows and go to Linux or something!

It will be interesting to see what happens, but either way I don't suspect Microsoft to "do the right thing". But that's just me, a pessimistic person.

You're more logical than pessimistic, my friend. ;)

"Many" is a relative term. "Many" have already done what you suggest. How has it changed the way they do business to this point? Apparently, not much.
On the other hand, who knows how ugly things might have been today if they hadn't had the lawsuits they've had so far?

Many people dumping IE would be the best thing to happen in years for the web. IE is cr*p and it is holding back/down the web imho.

Agreed. I was an avid Netscape fan until AOL got hold of it... (sob, sniff). Problem is, people buying their first computers don't have the first idea what a browser even is, let alone how to download & install a new one. Nor do they have a clue about whether IE works well or not. As long as Windows has the power base it does, the only ones making the switch to any other browser will be those of us who know how.

Heh..I guess the word "Hope" is too strong a terminology to use..
MotherNatrsSon:
but I don't think IE is cr#p..it works well enough..Netscape used to be good until AOL bought it and messed it up.
I agree that there should be more web browsers readily available instead of being restricted to just IE or Netscape.
Netscape would have been nice if AOL hadn't ruined it AND if it read code properly instead of it ruining web pages...IMO
P.S..Hey Jona..I like your new Avatar..tis cute :D
I'm a hypocrite. (But that's okay, because everyone loves a hypocrite.) ;) I use IE as my standard browser, simply because I'm so used to it. However, Netscape is more standards compliant (version 6.2 is anyway) than Internet Explorer. The use of Netscape and Internet Exporer will hopefully die down a lot in the coming years, and we'll see more open source. Yes, I am hinting at Mozilla... Isn't it great? :D
(Thanks about the avatar complement, BTW. lol. Let's not get off-topic. PM me if you want to talk about it more. :p)

i could think of many things I WANT Microsoft to do...like take their OS and shove it, take their browser and shove it, etc.
I do respect Bill for all of his philanthropic work though.
I enjoy my pc, and I enjoy my mac. The big difference I see though is that I have to spend time with my pc defragging the hard drive, tirelessly trying to avoid viruses, putting up with crashes (though this has improved slightly with XP), fixing up my pages due to IE bugs, etc. I don't have to do any of these things, or worry about them, with my Mac.
Having said that, Word seems to work fine, and I enjoy Powerpoint.
I just realized I am off on a rant (Dennis Miller here I come). I guess my final thought on the matter (uh oh, seque to Jerry Springer) is that I don't trust Microsoft to due what's best for the consumer or web user at all!
There is a difference between Bill Gates and Microsoft. I really admire the guy for what he did to reinnovate the computer world, but since Microsoft has made many bad moves. I like the way Windows operates, but I want to get RedHat Linux and Unix whenever I can get my hands on some money to get 'em... I just want Mozilla, open-source, Linux, and... money. :D

Well, I would have switched to a different OS like Linux Red Hat awhile ago but I can not be certain that my programs and devices will function on it...and I am not about to go out and spend mega bucks on new software and hardware either.
Also, I might have switched to Windows 2000 or something until I heard about all the glitches and security holes contained (purposely too, I heard) within.
So I am still using Windows 98 Second Edition...works alright too.
But I agree, one cannot trust any company...

I do not believe that Microsoft would purposely do such a thing. Microsoft has done a lot of bad things, but that is inconceivable. We've been a bit "against" Microsoft in this post, but let's keep it realistic, please. ;)

I am expressing an opinion, which I am entirely within my rights to do.
In Windows ME and other versions, they put out a software that was so full of security and program holes even an apprentice in testing would see it...Microsoft, it has been shown, is also very big on control and snooping on its users..this is a way to get info illegally and use it for advertising etc.
If this company is so dishonest as to steal another software comapny's patented coding..then what else have they done or are going to do?
This is my view.

And I am in no way violating that right. I am simply suggesting that you make sure you are not assuming something that is not true, or are lead to believe a false rumor. That is all...

This is my view. You know you can turn that all off. You do not have to share info with microsoft. I forgot what the setting is called but its should be right under your system settings.... You can also turn off those msmsg popups too. Everyone gets sooo panicy about little crap like that but it only takes a few seconds to disable and setup. I mean I did it when I was changing my desktop when I reinstalled xp on our other comp, its just a no brainer.
