Can Wordpress do this?

Hi,

if anyone can help me with the following it would be much appreciated.

I need to know if Wordpress can perform CMS for a website in the following capacity:

1. back-end login area for multiple users accessible from the main site.
2. a page where files can be uploaded to and then downloaded from, which can be archived into info like date added etc. to be used by a search feature.
3. each upload can have it's own blog where clients can discuss that particular file.

and not so importantly:

4. can the design of wordpress pages be completely customized.

I can't be sure about your questions 1, 2, and 3, but question 4:

It's free, and really quite easy to do.

As for the other questions, you might look at Teli Adlam's "OptiNiche" for ideas.

She has a "Digital Product Manager" which is a plugin and accompanying guide, but it may or may not be outdated. I haven't tried it. It dates back to 2007, so I'm not sure.

We've more or less established the answers to 2 and 3 now - it is 1 and 4 we are looking into. Thanks for the links, I'll check them out.

I would say yes to all of those questions. I would need to know some more specifics about each question to give you more in-depth answers.

Yes, we have since figured out that Wordpress can do all of the above to the extent we need it to - thanks.

However, on a side note I have noticed that after you create the site pages in wordpress (home, contact, about etc.) that when you visit them, the address bar shows the php call function. Here I would want it to read something more meaningful (eg. the 'contact' page may read http://www.examplesite.com/page_id=10 where I would rather it read, say, http://www.examplesite.com/contact/)

Is it possible to change what the address bar reads when it visits a page created in wordpress from the php code to a neat folder name?

Ah right, yes you can change those link names - it is straight forward too (the 'permalink' section in wordpress admin.) I don't need any help with that particular part now.
