Hello everybody, it is my first day in your forum and i am a bit lost.
I just completed a web site (My first one by the way) and it shows many pictures of my wife's paintings.
http.::www.chantelleart.com
I found an applet to add (Before the </body> tag as requested) to forbid people to copy the pictures.
It works..... only with explorer , not with Netscape and the applet designer does not answer to my SOS.
Can somebody help? you can see directly on the index page.
PS I have not try with any other browser, can sombody with opera for example try?
Thank you for any help
.

Its a useless effort to think that your images once they are on the net, can not be stollen or downloaded.

Hey,
We just went through an insanely long post on this topic in the last week or two.
The bottom line is that, as mentioned above, you CAN NOT protect your images once they are on the web. The web was not really designed for this, as the original purpose of it was for sharing information.
Any scripts that you might find can simply be defeated by going into the browser preferences and disabling Javascript/Java.
In order for the user to view the pages, the information is loaded to their machine. This means they could just retreive the images from the cache, or go into your source, find the path to the pic, and look at it that way.
And, if you could possibly defeat the points listed above...someone could just simply do a screen capture of your page, then use an image editing program to crop out the picture.
If you are really worried about photograph "theft", all you can do is to put a watermark on the images so they are of no use to someone. Though, even with this, unless your watermark was pretty prominent it could probably be photoshopped out with some effort.
I have just touched on the hilights, and there are many people more experienced than I who could provide more details.

However, There are ways to protect your images to some extent.
put images in a flash movie or in an applet and embed flash /applet in your page...

LOL..I know..but believe me I have no desire to post any responses, so its upto the othr guys to decide,as a matter of fact there is one other right now in javascript section as well..see my post in that.
Is it possible to make the webpage code secure? (http://forums.webdeveloper.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12796)
I just think that those of use who know abit more then those who don't should just kill this idea right there and then, because at the end its a complete waste of time to inquire about this issue and more importantly, trying to hide code is against the very soul of the internet (that its an open source medium).

Yup.
Not to go completely off topic, but how's the weather in Calgary? It's bright and shiny in Vancouver right now, but I am thinking of coming east for a trip.
