Does anyone have experience with, and suggestions for, a good "free" software product that converts graphics files into .ICO formats? Thanks.

Thanks. http://www.favicon.co.uk/ enforcer 01-22-2009, 11:10 AM Here's another site: http://www.sibcode.com/icon-plugin/index.htm devel95 01-22-2009, 11:35 AM Thanks "scragar", that worked perfectly. Thanks "enforcer", (note: the plug-in is for PhotoShop only). One last question --> how do you create transparency in the ICON file? Do you do it in the original image editor and save a transparent gif, or does the http://www.favicon.co.uk/ tool produce transparency? scragar 01-22-2009, 11:39 AM I don't think favicon's support transparency, either way GIMP will export to ico format, I'm sure that would be the best way to ensure you can keep transparency if possible. I would say try it the first way, saving it as a transparant GIF, then seeing if the site will work. For future ref I do recommend using GIMP to export it though. devel95 01-22-2009, 11:53 AM scragar, it seems that the tool only accepts JPEG and Bitmap image file formats. I tried it and I cannot import a transparent gif file. I'll give GIMP a try -- thanks for the tip. devel95 01-22-2009, 12:48 PM scragar...excellent tip on GIMP. It produced a transparent .ICO and it looks great! Downloaded and used GIMP GNU Software quickly to produce the ICO. Can't wait to get into more of the tool's features. webdeveloper.com
