Returning CSS style property values [Archive]

Is it possilble to return a CSS style property value? If so, does anyone know how? More specifically I am trying to figure out how to determine wether an <DIV> elements display value is currently "none" or "block".

"document.getElementById(iObj1).style.display" just returns blank.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
