Hi all,
I have created a brushed metal material using photoshop CS3. However, how do I apply this material to other objects such as fonts and other shapes?
How do I save the material and how do I apply to other objects like fonts.
Thanks!

I guess the most obvious way would be to simply write some text or whatever and then just use it as a mask for a rectangle of your material.

Thanks Stephen for your help!
Alright, I am not sure what you are talking about with the "Mask". Can you please describe to me after I type the text I want?
Thanks!

Glad to be of help. ;)
You should also be able to get some nice smooth/rounded edge effects to text and other objects too. Sometimes the edges can look a bit hard. Normally, I use the GIMP rather than Photoshop, but I think you can use pretty much the same method. The basic staeps are to make your text black with a white background or vice-versa. Then use a gaussian blur to blur the text a bit. Then once you have your blurred text, use it as a layer mask to a rectangle of your material.
The trick to getting the smoothed edges it to set the background colour of your text layer to alpha. I'll have to experiment with Photoshop at college to find exactly how to do it, but maybe you could figure it out yourself.
Try right-clicking the layer with your rectangle of material and seeing if there's some sort of layer mask you can tweak. If you manage it, experiment with varying degrees of gaussian blur to see how you can effect the depth of the rounding effect.
