So I am here asking for an overall review of my site http://logcomptechs.com/ Thanks, Shaun ArthurKay 02-05-2009, 05:41 PM (1) Graphic design is kinda plain... your logo is a bit boring, and there's a ton of space underneath your navigation bar. (2) Why is your blog the first content on the site? If I was coming to your site, I would be interested in your services or portfolio... not your blog. (at least not off-the-bat) (3) I don't know what CMS you're using (Joomla I'm guessing?), but STOP IMMEDIATELY. Your site has basically ZERO potential for good search engine optimization because each page is some extension of "index.php". I could keep ripping the CMS here, but I'm just getting frustrated... (4) Your navigation bar is not as wide as your other page elements. What's that about? (5) Are you using FONT tags for any particular reason? Or is that Joomla's WYSIWYG editor doing that for you? chestertb 02-09-2009, 12:01 AM I agree with Arthur, EXCEPT for the SEO thing. Search engines are able to catalog and rank web sites that use this sort of structure without too much drama, provided each loaded extension of index.php has appropriate meta tags and titles. (I'm not familiar with Joomla so I don't know if that is the case for your site) I'd also add... Your paragraphs are too long. I know a paragraph is supposed to be a connected group of sentences, but believe it or not, most newspaper and magazine copy uses single sentence paragraphs. While I'm not necessarily advocating that, they do it for a reason... readability. For example, under Services/Joomla Development, your one long block of text needs to be broken into AT LEAST 7 paragraphs to make it easier to read. Unless you do that, most visitors won't bother because big blocks of unbroken text literally make their eyes hurt. I'd also drop the serif font in your menu bar. Serif fonts are fantastic for readability when they're black on white background. As soon as you do anything else, the limitations of computer graphics make serif text difficult to read, especially for older visitors. Finally, you have a difficult bit of client relationship politics to navigate, in that your glass client's site is awful. You definitely don't want prospective clients seeing that. Either find a way to drop it from your portfolio, or re-do their site because right now, it sends the wrong message to your potential customers. CTB ArthurKay 02-09-2009, 09:43 AM I agree with Arthur, EXCEPT for the SEO thing. Search engines are able to catalog and rank web sites that use this sort of structure without too much drama, provided each loaded extension of index.php has appropriate meta tags and titles. I disagree 100%. It's a huge amount of drama. Sure the search engines can index the content in such a structure... BUT search engines give a ton of weight to the page's actual name. That means "index.php?pageid=32" will score significantly less than "hosting.php". That's a huge deal for SEO... not to mention that it's confusing for your visitors. Anyone who does SEO professionally will tell you that. At any rate, I checked the site again and it looks like your have the pages renamed appropriately so this isn't an issue any more. ambytiousone 02-09-2009, 12:07 PM I agree with Arthur in all respects...header, spacing, graphics, etc. But not only is the glass company site in your portfolio EXTREMELY basic, but the "Animal Care League" site is all out of alignment and overlapping. Not to mention the FX University looks extremely similar to your site, with the spacing between the nav. bar and such. Please, I don't mean to barrade your site... it's just, if you expect to get people to take you as a credible designer you want them to see you at your best. Thats all for now. Good Luck.. deepraj12@gmail 02-10-2009, 06:00 AM nice site and design so good but you need to more content place on your site.. Mololo 02-11-2009, 01:58 AM I have no idea what to start with. You know, you have about 10 years of hard working before you get anywhere. I'd suggest you to forget about trying to design a whole website by yourself. Pick a technical stuff you like most and learn to be the best at it. Once you're done, join a team and keep learning. Cheers ; ) andr105 02-11-2009, 09:50 AM Looks nice! It's a good designed site! webdeveloper.com
