Sorting by date, time etc

Hi

I'm struggling to find a decent guide to help me on this one - not expecting full answers from anyone on here - it's quite extensive! But if anyone can point me the right directioin...

I need to dynamically create a table that shows upcoming events. Some will be unique one-off events. Some will be on certain days of the weeks. Some will be monthly, weekly, bi-weekly, first or last Friday of the month etc etc.

I'm reckoning on having a day field (listing all days of the week applicable), type field (monthly, unique etc), date field for unique items, time (should be the same time for every occurence) and then figure out the current day date and time. Then using a query which figures what type and therefore how to deal with the info.

Any help as to where there might be a guide which covers this sort of thing would be awesome and could save me loads of time!
