Hi Everybody,

It was hard for me to come up with a title for this one. So a couple of months ago the company I work for hired a company to do some programming for us. I am the Web & Graphic Designer but by far I am not a Programmer (not at all).

For instance, they created:

- a blog/reviews site they created for us (wordpress)
- a help desk system (totally coded in php...i dont think i could figure this one out if i tried they got from here http://www.phpjunkyard.com/free-helpdesk-software.php)
- moved our webmail system from ix web hosting mail to a google one that is run off of them (dont understand this but i think some developers can use google mail as their own? you can correct me if im wrong)
- security for our sites by setting permissions on the back end of some sites. For example our index.html pages are now s-index.html.

Well fast forward to now...my company basically wants to cut their services out. They basically signed up for Network Solutions and I am now in charge of moving everything over.

They don't want to tell these people anything until the final moment which I think will be very hard. I mean I think the blog wouldn't be all that difficult to handle since it's wordpress.

But for instance wouldn't the help desk have to be maintained by someone who would know php since they installed it?? The same for the Google mail??

There are also some files that won't copy over...some php files that I really don't know what they are for.....Network Solutions told me to copy all our files on my hard drive and re-upload although ftp to ftp does work. Which make sit alot easier on me.

Thanks for any advice you can give me!!!

So what's the problem? That the company is being dumped or that you will have to take on the running of the site?

Neither...because unfortunately bills and a crappy economy don't give me the choice to be morally choosy and I already manage the front end of the sites anyways.

What I want to know if it's really possible to move everything w/out their help. I personally don't think it is but I wanted to see what everyone out there thinks.

If you have all the files for the site and have no contractural obligations left with that outside company (although that's somethinig your bosses need to deal with), I don't believe you should need their help moving to Network Solutions.

You will need usernames and passwords
