Alright, so I am sitting here looking for a way to entertain myself, and I think to myself, "Why not start an online community?!".

Thing is, is that I don't know anything about domain names, server hostings, forums and where to get them..etc.

I was wondering if some of you could help me out with the following:p

1. Where is a great place to buy a reliable domain? (Heard godaddy.com wasn't so great from what I read). And the posts I read about domain seller suggestions was kinda old like dated back to 2004.

2. When I buy a domain will I always have to pay annual fee? Is there anyway I can just buy the domain once and for all? If so, how?

3. When I buy a domain how do I make it look like a webpage? I understand that I will need to know how to code, but once I figure that out, how do I get it to show on the site? How do I get my notepad of code showing on the website?

4. Design, how do I even begin designing a web-page?

5. How much will all of the above cost?
--> Include the following: Forums, Domain, Good server-hosting, web design..etc.

Thanks :) I will post back if more questions come to mind!

I suggest you
- contact a web host and ask questions about pricing (since that is prohibited in this forum)
- read about how to make a website (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=Vej&q=how+to+make+a+website&start=0&sa=N) because that can't be answered in one forum post
- read about domains (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_domain) in order to understand how they function
- really consider learning about coding (http://www.tizag.com/) BEFORE publishing a website

And for the record - I use GoDaddy and I have not had a single problem with them. They are cheap and reliable so far!

I disagree because I had them at one point for over a year and my server load just went out of wack on a shared hosting account. I had to keep calling them to try and get the issue resolved and in the end they were trying to blame my site for being the issue. I switched to a different hosting company and have not had a problem since.

1) I currently don't have an hosting package so can't comment on were to buy a domain name and which company to use. But I run a website on www.namesco.com and use a family members server at no extra cost. As far as I know it's a decently run company and have had no problems with them before, although I do find their own web page editing software to be slightly problematic. Give em an email and I'm sure they'll be happy to answer any questions.

3) Go here Getting started (http://www.htmlgoodies.com/tutorials/getting_started/), this is where I first learnt about web design and such, it even starts off with what HTML means, gotta start somewhere.

4) Same as 3

5) It will take alot of time and effort to even to begin to design the website you want, as for the cost, if you have a computer with some sort of a notepad on and a browser on it then you don't need to spend anything for the moment. Although I would recommend investing in a few books such as Head first HTML (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Head-First-HTML-CSS-XHTML/dp/059610197X/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1237585709&sr=1-5) and other books in the Head First series, and the Missing Manual series which you can find on amazon.
