Hello all.

I decided to register on this forum since I was not able to find any info about my problem anywhere else. I have some service manuals for Toshiba TV units and they require a "Zeus Engine" for them to be viewed. I have installed this engine, which is based on Javascript, as far as I can see, but I have a problem running it. It shows me an "The ZEUS ENGINE cannot be located." error. It needs to be installed under C:\Program Files\. I went there manually after I saw that I can't get it to work (zeus folder there) and saw a setup.html file there. I clicked it and it opened a page which seems to allow you to perform a setup (which is weird since I had to already install the software to get to that, huh) and there's a system check feature there which shows that everything is installed fine. Yet I'm still getting the error.

Now I'm totally stuck cause I need this to work to be able to view the manuals and carry on with my repairs. Toshiba itself was not very helpful. They said a DWF viewer was needed to work properly which is true but doesn't have anything to do with the problem I described. Useless.

Now I'm wondering if any of you more experienced users are willing to have a look at this thing and try to find out how to make it work. I have uploaded the engine along with a sample service manual to http://css.setti.info/~perplexer/zeus.zip

The engine itself comes in an *.exe (EXEpress CX 5) archive but if anyone doesn't trust executables, I zipped up my already installed files (non-binary) and included the zip file inside the zip in the url. I'm not sure though if this Javascript stuff works if it's not installed via setup.exe or something. Anyway, I'm sure some of you will know how to deal with it. Docs and readmes are in the file with some of my comments.

I hope someone will have a look at it.
Thank you.

I too am working on the same issue. Thanks for having the Zeus package included since I was about to download it myself. I am in the process of reading the PDF "Quick Use Guide for the Toshiba Zeus Service Manuals" and searching for other info as well before installing the Zeus package. I am also looking at the source code written into the menu.html page in the HTML folder which you may find interesting as well.
I'll post back with any results (positive I hope)

ZEUS

This browser is not supported.
Install Internet Explorer 6 or higher as a default browser.
ZEUS manual functions with Internet Explorer only.

There is that plus the fact that pop-up blockers need to be de-activated and "allowing active content" needs to be checked in the Security settings.

About to try IE (unfortunately) now.

After just installing the Zeus program and opening IE, I am able to go to File=>Open and select the menu.html in the html folder and open up the main menu for the service information. I have not applied any updates to Zeus yet and I am still getting several error messages and Active X blocks that I click through, but in the end I am able to view the information. I think this basically needs to have IE without any safety protocols in place and everything enabled to allow Active X and scripting to run.

I got a Java update prompt a day or two ago which I installed. That's about the only change I made to my system. I rebooted and now ZEUS seems to work OK. I am using Internet Explorer 7 with security settings set to what the Zeus manual recommends. Although that didn't work before, it does work now. Maybe a Java update fixed some system links, parameters or whatever (if it has anything to do with Java at all). Anyway, as I said, it is now working on my PC so I guess this can kind of be considered as a solved problem, even though I am not sure what exactly was wrong before so I may encounter headaches again if someday it stops working or I reinstall my PC. :-)

Mine is working as well except for an occasional prompt from a scripting error that I click through and seems to work anyway. I make sure I set my IE browser to offline since the security settings make me nervous enough as it is, I sure don't need it to go online that way. I just use Firefox for everything else.
