What do you mean "all files appear to have been converted to acrobat"?
Are you saying that your Acrobat reader is trying to open zip and other files in addition to pdfs? Because if that's the case, it may simply be a matter of re-associating your zip files with Winzip and other files with their appropriate program, which you can do through Windows Explorer (if you're running some version of Windows at least).

Thank for responding Mayday
I am also confused.
the files are on my desktop and am running Firefox 3.1
Zip files appear as acrobat but the still maintain the zip extension and the reader cannot open zip files.
Vista is supposed to have its own unzip utility???
I have tried a system restore, but there are some errors so it is not completed
Thanks
Were u able to download and open the file?

Something seems fishy about this. It contains a .exe file and even though AVG came up clean I still don't trust what's going on in this thread....

I'm at work so cannot just download any ol' file, though even were I at home, I wouldn't download random files I know nothing about anyway.
Still not entirely understanding what you mean by the zip files appear as Acrobat files. Acrobat is a file reading program mainly used for looking at pdf documents - it does not unzip files (unless there's some super-duper new version out I haven't seen yet) - if you have a zip file containing other file(s), you need to open it with Winzip or some similar utility before you can access them. Still learning Vista myself so can't confirm if it has a built-in utility.
So it sounds like:
A. somewhere in your local settings .zip files are incorrectly being associated with Acrobat instead of a zip/unzip untililty
or (less likely)
B. they're not actually .zip files, but some kind of Adobe file and are misnamed
If you believe the file in question to be something other than an actual zip file, but has a .zip extension erroneously attached, you can try renaming it to .pdf or whatever you think it should be through Windows Explorer and then see if it will open.
However, as Aj posted, if that is an actual zip file containing some executable file, you want to be 100% sure that the .exe file is something you intend to put on your machine. If you're not 100% positive it couldn't possibly be something harmful, then you should avoid the file at all costs.
