Hi,

It's been quite a while since I did any original artwork (never really did a lot of it anyway), but I've been given a logo for my brother's new company that badly needs to be redone before creating his website (it's all pixelated ... obviously not done in a decent graphics program.)

I have Paint Shop Pro which has vector drawing capabilities, and I've been messing with overlaying ellipses on top of each other and skewing one to try to achieve a similar effect, but I can't seem to get it right.

Can anyone give me some instructions on how to go about recreating this logo? Here's the logo that was given to me:

I would be really grateful for any tips! :o

Well if I was to do it, I think I would maybe use one ellipse or skewed circle to draw the thin lines and use the pen tool to draw the thick, tapering to thin part. If you're worried about the two halves being exactly the same, just pen in one side and then flip it over to make an exact (but upside down) duplicate. Do this without the letters and when it looks right, add the letters.
I'm sure there are lots of other ways too but that's probably how I would start.
Best wishes,
EfV

Agree about building the elipse in two halves. With 3 layers you can put the right half behind the text and the left half in front.

That's a good suggestion. I was having trouble getting both sides to look the same. I'm not good with the pen tool, but I think I can achieve this using the vector shape tool to create 2 ellipses and skewing one over another (and then flipping to make a duplicate.) In between those layers I can put the text.

Thank you both!

Wow, that's great! I hadn't had a chance to work on it anymore yet, but that's a perfect replica, except MUCH better quality!

Thanks SO much!

What program did you use, Illustrator or similar?
