I hope someone can help me here.
I have a computer that acts really wonky..when it accesses the net it will surf just fine for awhile but then suddenly it won't load up pages, giving me those Microsoft Error Pages saying the "page has been moved" blah,blah,blah..
But I can access the same pages on another comp in the home...the IP settings on both comps is the same...
Another odd thing was when I installed the Norton Anti-Virus Program..when I restarted the comp..my "Dial Up" window shows up on start up and I have to repeatedly hit the "Close" button on it before it will go..preferably away.
I uninstalled the old drivers for a modem that no longer exists and it helped slightly but the problem remains..and now some programs take an eternity to start up..
I am reformatting the drive once again as I suspect a major glitch occured someplace...
Does anyone have any ideas as to what may be wrong?
Microsoft Scandisk shows no errors or Bad Sectors, my modem is new, the chip seems okay and the memory is assumably still working...anyone ever encountered such wonderous trips into PC Happyland?

Turn your cache setting in IE down to something like 5mb.
Delete all temp Internet files.
Delete all offline content.
On the Connections tab in IE's properties, highlight the dialup whose window keeps starting. If you don't need it, click Remove on the right.
If you do need it, select the Never Dial a Connection radio button. (you may have to do this on a regular basis until IE decides you are serious)
You might also want to keep an eye on proxy server checkbox in the Settings area for your dialup. Normally that box should be empty, but IE will sometimes add a checkmark.
Hope that helps. If not, try simply uninstalling NAV. Run REGCLEAN over & over until it stops finding errors to fix. Reboot & run REGCLEAN again. Then reinstall NAV.

If you do all that has been suggested above and problem persists, then here some actions to take.
Scrap norton antivirus from your system.
download AVG Antivirus by Grisoft (http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php)
Set it up and run it.
If your computer doesn't have any problem like low on disk space then I bet you have few of the popular viruses going around now a days...

Thanks for the replies.
I did reformat the Hard Drive and reinstalled Windows 98..so far so good...however I still have a problem with the internet.
I do empty the Temporary Internet Files Folder as well as the cookie folder after every time I log off the net. And on top of that I only had one connection..even before reformatting...so I agree that Norton was to blame
Anyways, I can surf for awhile but then suddenly I cannot access any pages...another odd thing is on some sites that has data in a table, like on Bigcharts.com (which is a financial charting site), and if I refresh the page then it gets all distorted..the data isn't nicely in line like it is supposed to be.
I suspect my modem so I might switch modems around to see if that is indeed the problem.
But I also wonder if my motherboard is going kaput too.
Anyways, thanks for the help! :D

The modem is not the issue. It's only job is to provide the data connection between your computer & your ISP's.
Sounds like more than one problem. This is common when you start upgrading/repairing hardware. Fix one thing & something else craps out.
You might be having an issue with your video card, rather than your mobo. Swap that out & see if it helps. If the video is integrated into the motherboard, disable it & plug in a new card if you can.
You might actually have some faulty memory causing the Internet problems. Have you added or changed any chips lately? If so, check for speed compatibility. Swap chips between slots. Run the system on one chip alone. Then try a different one. Any/all of these may give you some clues. Then again, they may not. Hardware issues are often very tough to track down. Easy to fix, but hard to find.

download opera and mozilla. download them to the same drive as IE. run them both and test them and see if either locks up. if they do, uninstall and install on a different drive from the one IE is on (D instead of C) and test again. if they work fine you know it's your C drive, it they still act up, then you know it isnt IE's fault AND it's not your HD to blame. Simple way to rule these two possibilities out.

"if they work fine you know it's your C drive, it they still act up, then you know it isnt IE's fault AND it's not your HD to blame."
What? There's nothing wrong with his hard drive.
Installing to a different drive doesn't guarantee anything. There are still files installed on the C: drive, no matter what, if the app was written for Windows.
Then there is the issue of shared files. The apps won't tell you what files they share, but they will make changes to them just the same when you install. And IE is so integrated with Windows now that you can't remove it simply without messing up your system. So... Just because you install a browser to the D: drive, you can't rule out IE as the cause if the new browser acts up.
