How to create a search utility?

I was wondering how one would create a search utility covering one's own website. Comments or links to tutorials would be a great help.

Well, you are probably going to need a data base and a server side language if you want to do it yourself. I have seen it done in java script, but that method is very laggy for the user (the bigger the site the more problems its going to cause). If you are not interested in putting all of your articles or news posts in a data base to begin with that can be searched you can use a google site search or something of that nature.
