Hello..............

I have been looking for ways to increase my conversion rates and would like to hear anyone's opinion about the use of a "Chat Service" (basically a per order service, like an affiliate).

When someone who is at your web site, chooses to leave, without placing an order, a window pops up with a live operator available to try to "save the day" and convert that visitor to order.

The pop up window might say "Hi I"m Alice, I see you're leaving, but I can get you 10% off an order today on our latest special, etc etc" The visitor could then click on the link and have a 2 way text message with Alice.

If the visitor gives an order, then the site owner pays a commission to the Chat Service.

They claim 10% to 15% increase in sales.

You can have the chat pop up appear anywhere in the cycle ie: if someone puts something in your shopping cart, but then chooses to leave the cart without finishing the sale, etc

It is strictly a commission based service. Pay only when they get an actual order. Think of it just like an affiliate.

I kind of liken the approach to a more sophisticated kind of spam. That kind of stuff can also drive people away, and maybe for good.

But, I may be over reacting.

Anyone have any experience with this? Would appreciate any feedback at all!

Thanks
Joe Hussar

The only feedback I can give is that it worked for me once. I was on a software site and decided not to buy.. got a popup offering 15% off if I stayed.. so I did, and bought.

Personally when I leave a page I want to leave it. So a popup preventing the page from unloading literally pisses me off and I don't go back to the site even if I want what they have to offer (and the people you are thinking about using probably have a bot with a pretty good AI, you can trip it up with the right questions)

I agree with the previous couple of posters, I likely would never revisit that site, as I don't like things forced upon me by a site. You'd have to weigh - would such a feature actually create more business/traffic/profit than it could potentially lose.

it's good to include the option for live chat, but keep it an option, something requiring the user to click to initiate it.

These chat popups inviting you to chat are annoying to say the least.

If I get one I close it, if the thing pops up again I then complain and give the site an earful.

You are best off drawing attention to the fact that people "CAN" use the "CHAT" to talk to a real person and then people will use it if they need to.
