Hi,

I have a computer that runs Windows XP Pro and when I start it up and go to log on, it freezes. The icons to click the account don't even show up. I have no CD for the computer as I bought the computer a few years back and got no CD to reboot it with.

The computer is:
Dell GX 270,
384mb RAM,
2.8 GH Processor,
40gb Hard drive.

I have a hard drive with Windows XP Home from an old computer of mine. If I was to insert this hard drive would this still work or would it need activating again?

Many Thanks
Gaz

Will it boot into Safe Mode? If not you could try the other hard drive, but depending on the configuration it came out, it may or may not have the correct drivers...

The system that the other hard drive came out of is totally different.

Not sure what causes this, but I've noticed it happening a LOT within the last year... happened to me, my friend, my other friend in California, and my parent's computer. When going in to safemode, it goes to the screen where it lists all the drivers it's loading, and it hangs on mup.sys. All I've been able to do is install XP on another partition, copy the files I need, and reformat.
