Hiya Guys

I am having a major problem trying to upload my website onto my server. What I mean about major is that I have been trying patientally to work out how to upload correctly for 2 weeks

Apparently all my efforts are in vain

What i am trying to do is:

I have 2 website sitting on my server - one is a online portal for the deaf and the other is internet marketing for the deaf.

Ok, what I did was....upload my new flies to the internet market directory and then deleted the old files from the internet market directory ( we have revamped the site so want to load the new site)

OK, but can u explain why my old site is still on line when I have already deleted the files from the server and my new files are in there but not showing online????

What I want from you is to guide me in how to upload my new files to an existing directory on the server - more like overwrite.

Do I need to rename the new files correctly?

For example the old file was IMD.htm which I'd already deleted from the server so if I rename the new files to IMD.htm, will it work?

I am pulling my pretty hair out !!!

Please guys, help me out here !

Thank you for your time in advance

hhmmm i think that all u need to do is refresh your browser because sometimes browsers cache so much of your websites, you tend to get the same one no matter how much u visit it unless u refresh it. If you refresh it, it should show the difference.

if it doesnt work, let me know and i will try to help.

Do I need to rename the new files correctly?Absolutely.

For example the old file was IMD.htm which I'd already deleted from the server so if I rename the new files to IMD.htm, will it work?Yes, it will work. But what order are you doing these things in? See next quote...

The way you've written your post is a little confusing. Here's my suggestion for how to do it:

If you do not need your old files, delete them from the server. If you want to keep them, create a new folder on the server & move the files there.
Upload the new files.

muadmz is correct about IE not clearing its cache. If your new files have not shown up in your browser (this should only be the case if they have the same name as the old files), hold your Shift key down & click the Refresh button. Try this a few times. Also, click on Tools, then Internet Options. Click Settings & select Every visit to the page. Reduce the disk space setting to 5MB or less. Click OK. Then click to delete files & select the option to delete all offline content. If all of this does not fix the problem, switch to another browser (only half joking).

If you have deleted the original files but still see them in your browser, your cache is not being cleared.

Have you tried accessing the site from another computer?

Have you tried another browser?

Try renaming one of the files. Can you view it properly?
