On my laptop I have a full installation of Windows XP Home then another partial installation of Windows XP Pro? If I load that one it takes me to a screen to continue the installation... but I don't want it, at all.

The annoying part is that is the default so if I just turn on my laptop and forget to select the working installation it goes into the unfinished installation.

I want to get rid of it, but I'm kind of worried I'll accidentally get rid of my working stuff. That would suck... a lot.

Did you do it on another partition? Seems you need to rebuild your MBR (http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en-us&q=rebuild+MBR&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8).

Honestly I'm not sure how it was done, an ex-coworker did it.

You will have a boot file that contains all the information on where to find the boot partitions to boot from.

The default is always the top entry, so when you install a dual boot, the last install of WinXP will be the current to boot from.

This is a basic text file and no need to fix your MBR which is not accessed by the operating system at all.

A simple edit of this ini file will allow you to remove the partition information and allow the other version of XP home to boot.

This may help you get over the boot issue : http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/bootini.htm

Then when you have solved that, a simple format of the other partition will resolve the issue of the partial install and free up space to put something useful on it like Ubuntu (For Example)
