Just wondering is anyone can answer a few q's for me?

1. Anyone know of any free webhosting with MySQL and PHP installed?

2. Where can I go for a not too complex but useful tutorial on My SQL and PHP, I am new to the website creation lark and am interested in creating a forum for my scout group using Invision Board but it says it needs My SQL and PHP installed.

Thanks

Okay, Dathor, I just about soiled myself when I visited your site out of curiosity. I clicked on your "My Song" link, and I got that really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, infuriating looping alert, which then, when stopped, crashed IE6; thus closing all my opened windows. 4, by the way.
I have one thing to say about that looping alert...

GET RID OF IT!!!

I'm not sure if this goes here, or if anyone likes it; but I almost busted a nut and smacked someone when that happened.

So... Did you like it?

The site? I couldn't really say, I only got on the first page, and the "My Song" page. After the annoying alert crashed IE, I didn't bother going back, and I probably won't. Sometimes, for some reason, I cannot view the source of a page by right-clicking, nothing shows up when I click on "View Source." And the button on the browser was disabled. So I could not see his coding, which is important, for me, because if he used tables, I would immediately have left; I hate people who use tables. I cringe at any use of tables. I will not use a table even to display tabular data, I will find another way to make it work with CSS. But, from what I did see, I liked the navigation. That was cool.

Yes, I do realize that. But so far, the use of tables has not been needed, correctly or otherwise. So I have yet to use (X)HTML incorrectly. I have a very odd obsession with not using tables...I used to use tables for layout purposes, but it was nto for very long, I immediately switched when I was introduced to CSS. Since then, I have never, ever thought about using tables for ANYTHING I've done so far with building websites. I despise tables in every way possible. I'm not sure why...I just do.

I'd be interested in seeing a link to some of you XHTML documents...

I was refering to the fact that I have not, so far, used something other than tables to display tabular data. Which, according to you, would be using (X)HTML incorrectly.

And I was pointing out that proper use of XHTML goes far beond not using tables for layout... ;)

I am quite positive that I use XHTML incorrectly, be it consciously, or, more likely, unconsciously. But I do know that in the manner of tables, I have, thus far, used it correctly, to my knowledge, of course.

Is there a specific XHTML validator somewhere? Something that CAN tell me if I have a well-formed, sematic document? Something that can do what, as you said, validators such as the w3, cannot do? I would be very interested in this. Currently, I have been trying my hand at web design for around 5 months, give or take a few weeks. So I am very interested in learning as much as I can about creating valid, accessible, and otherwise correct websites. Which would include learning how to make my XHTML documents as well-formed and sematic as possible.

No, there is nothing to tell you if you have a well-formed, semantic XHTML docuement, as far as I know. I think that is just a matter of understanding what structural markup is. Each element needs to be marked up according to it's meaning in the page. a <h1> element doesn't mean "big, bold text", it means a first level header. A paragraph tag isn't a way to space out your content - it means it is a paragraph. I'd highly recomment Jeffrey Zeldman's book "designing with web standars" to help you grasp this concept.

This is really getting quite far from the original question... I suggest that we save this topic for a different thread and try to help the original poster with his problem.

Paul, you could post a separate thread if you still have questions on the subject.

Pryo-

I figured that was probably the case. When it comes down to it, good ol' experience cannot be rivaled. I shall look into this book, I've seen it recommended many times throughout various topics on the forum.

Ooh, yeah, I'll do that, Sorry for clogging up this thread.

Sorry about the song page, I was testing out JavaScript alerts and while loops. It seemed a fun way to do it. I will get rid of it soon. Till then don't visit the "My Song" page unless you want to crash IE. (Dunno bout netscape)

Sorry
