My goal is to have an swf file as a background for an HTML page which I'll then put some context over this background.....is it possible???:confused:

No I don't think it's possible to have an object such as Flash in the background. I could be wrong...

have you tried using a pair of <div>'s?

placing one with your flash movie, then giving the second a z-index of 1 and placing your text in it?

did you ever solve getting a swf file to play as a background on which you placed HTML content? I was trying to do the same thing just now, and having problems, when I read
your thread.
