Hi,

My drd write is not worknig properly. I want to update the windows XP drivers but all I can find is firmware updates. What is this? Why do I haev to install firmware drivers as opposed to windows XP drivers which I expected?

System updates refer to the operating system, this is nothing to do with the hardware attached.

Drivers are the instructions to the OS on how to use the devices connected to it. It is like a manual that the computer reads.

Firmware is typically the software in your hardware that makes your hard disk, router, modem, DVD burner work, etc.. Think of it like a BIOS for your hardware.

If your DVD drive is physically OK and I take it that its worked fine up until now with no problems, the issue is more likely to be XP.
