Hi.
I have created an html email newsletter.
My first question is about providing an unsubscribe link on the newsletter. What is the best way to do this?
I want something that can send emails to subscribed users and an unsubscribe link, which of course unsubscribes them.
With the very limited knowledge i have of php i could probably write something but im guessing there must be some software or script which does this.
Ive looked around the internet and have seen some paid solution but im not sure if its exactly what i want and i dont really want to pay.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I would highly recommend a paid solution. It's possible to create custom built subscription functionality, but there is a lot that goes into it. For instance, you will need a way to keep track of not only mailing list but then you will need to remove users that have unsubscribed. Another thing that people often forget about is blacklisting of your domain/ip. Often times people will not use an unsubscribe link and simply report you as a spammer to their ISP. This means that you will need to monitor various black list and deal with any ISP's/companies that have black listed you. You will also have to take bandwidth into account. If you are sending 10k emails with images that link back to files that exist on your web server, this will clearly eat up bandwidth.
A good paid solution will do all of that for you.

In addition to Vertical Response and Constant Contact, there are also the following:
AWeber
http://www.aweber.com/
MailChimp
http://www.mailchimp.com/
Has a free option.
Yourmailinglistprovider
http://www.yourmailinglistprovider.com/
Has a free option.
icontact
http://www.icontact.com/
Bronto
http://www.bronto.com/
If your list is presently small, you could try the free option offered by some of these services. As your database grows, you could then decide if any of these services are good enough to pay for.
