ok here it is.
a friend of mine got a problem with his pc.i checked it and found out that the problem was with the power supply.i replaced the old power supply with a 550 watt power supply but it didnt work. Then i tried to put another one with only 450 watt and it worked fine.
Is it normal as i thought there were no compatibility problems between power supplies and motherboards or was i wrong?

My 550watt PSU has a switch on the back to turn it on and off.

Are you sure you didn't have the thing turned off on the PSU?

Your new 24 pin adapter can shed 4 pins off the end to fit the older 20 pin boards.

As far as not working goes, it is very possible that the thing is dead to start with if the issue is not a switch problem. If the PSU is providing too much dirty power, the mobo will refuse to take the supply.

So you have a number of issues to eliminate.

nope there's no switch, i haven't checked it yet but i guess that the problem is with the difference of pins.
