Ok, everything was going along fine with my philosophy:
If no problems, don't upgrade / don't update

It takes weeks to get everything settled the way I like it again.

So, I made the big mistake of downloading IE8 and now, some useless program comes up when I click to view source. Its absolutely lame, "original source" is whats on the title bar.

tools/internet options/programs/HTML editing--- shows Notepad selected

What is this other thing that comes up instead of Notepad and, how can I get Notepad back?

And another thing. IE used to only place a little yellow triangle on the status bar
to indicate errors. Now, you have to suffer a huge honking alert window on each error.

At least my .hta applications still open Notepad when I wish to edit. I once held out for
IE and some of its proprietary codes for local applications but this new 8 has really strained my opinion.

Firefox will become the default browser and I have Editor2 set for editing. Meanwhile, IE will open Notepad to edit but not from a handy right click. No, you have to go to file/edit with Notepad.

That other stupit thing that comes up isn't good for much other than psychedelic colors on the test and to find line numbers.

Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, click on View Installed Updates and then you'll see IE8 in the list to uninstall.

IE8 can wait for your next, new machine.
