Hi All
This is my first post so be nice ;-)
I'm needing some advice and guidance and was thinking this could be the place to get it.
Firstly I'm a bit of a web developer novice. I dabble with ASP and html and some flash. I have no formal training or qualifications under my belt but have built a number of websites over the past few years for customers.
Its got to a point where its time I got to grips with the fundamentals and gained an understanding of accessibility and web standards as well as obtaining some formal education in web development. Afterall I wouldnt employ a builder without proper experience or qualifications would i?
So my question is where do I start ? what language do I learn and what skills ought I look to obtain ?
The above leads to a large project that I've got planned that again, I'm hoping you can advise me on.
My Client is looking for a large resource and learning section for himself, staff and students. Each of the 3 sections (Employer, Students & staff) will be secured by a username and password which will be managed by my client. The ability to add and remove user accounts quickly and easily is vital. This site will house various material like videos, pictures, possibly blogs and documents of varying sizes and type.
Could anyone advise how I may approach this project and what language/skillset would and should I learn in order to accomplish this task ?
I know I'm asking alot in my first post but I'm looking to get going seriously with my web development business and your help would get me going on the right footing and of course I would love to be able to offer help and guidance back here one day !:D
Hope you all can help !
Steve
