If I own the domain http://www.myserver.com/ how do I (or can I) create a page like http://www.wml.myserver.com/

I have seen some sites like this and I wonder if they had to separately purchase the wml.nnnnnnn.com domain or if this prefix was something they were allowed to add to their domain.

Thank you

The domain you own in all probability is mserver.com. That's a domain name. You can typically make as many subdomains (ie. www.myserver.com, wml.myserver.com, google.mydomain.com, etc) as you like, from the control panel of the site where you have the domain registered.

You can create the subdomains from the hosting control panel rather than domain registration control panel.
