When I browse on the internet, it seems that many website pages have URLs that end in a file extension - .htm for example - but others do not. Why is that?

I use FrontPageXprs to create my webpages, and it automatically names all of my pages xxxx.htm. What, if any, are the pluses and minuses of having file extensions in the URL?

If there is not file extention, it means it is pointing to a directory, and has and index.ext (or default.ext) page inside it.

So basically they all DO have some kind of file extension in there somewhere? I'll have to look more closely. Thanks for the quick response.

Yes, the files will have an extention...
