Hi I've developed a site using ems as my unit of measure for text. I've tested it on PC IE, FF, Opera, Chrome, safari and on Mac FF, Opera, Safari etc.
All works fine, however my client has pointed out that the text appears differently on two of their computers. They are both using XP and IE 7, text size is set to medium on both browsers, so how come the text size appears differently. Text appears differently throughout the site but the problem areas are the side navigation and also the main heading "What you can find in the centre"
I have attached screen captures of both.

Any ideas????
Got me really stumped!

That's a symptom of a problem with the page.
You cannot know what font size your viewers' browsers are going to be
set at, so you should code the page so that it works in any size
(within a wide range).

Thanks for your reply and point taken! However I want to test this out.
Can you or does anyone know how to find the default font settings in explorer? I don't mean where to change the font size from small to medium or larger or largest, but actually find what pixel size the default is set to. You can do something similar with firefox by going to the content tab in preferences and there it's usually set to 16px and times new roman by default and you are given the option to change it. That's what I'm after in Internet Explorer.
Any ideas?
Thanks

just define the font and size from the beginning... or be prepared to have a lot of headaches!
I believe that the IE7 / IE8 default font is 16px Times New Roman.
What about Mac and Linux??? The defaults for Firefox are not the same as on Windows....
At least you have experienced that "All browsers are not created equal."
Have fun!

That's the problem, I have defined the font and the size. Does anyone know how to get at internet explorer 7's default font settings so I can check what the problem could be?
thanks

You should always use:
body { font-size: 100%; }
