Hello,
When you post a blog or news entry on your website about a specific subject for news reporting purposes, as long as you show the source, it is an okay practice for just showing the photos? Lets say you see an interesting news somewhere with a photo and write about it on your blog. Is it a usual practice to include that photo in your blog, as long as you show the source of photo?
Thanks

Hi,

If you display the photo of the news/case on your blog then it will be much better and more web users takes interest on that.

You should always get permission to use photos. Many news sites cite their sources. Try to track down the source of the image to see if it is released under a creative commons license or the like. Fines for using images without permission can be hefty and it is much better to be safe than sorry.

Many photographers don't mind if you ask them first and reference them as the source.

how about youtube videos? say I see something interesting in a news website which contains a youtube video. (actually I might see the same video on youtube itself as well)... When the video finishes, there are "embed" code and a URL link.

When there is an embed code, does it mean that the original poster of that video is allowing anyone to embed that video to his website? Or does that embed thing appear no matter what, even if the original poster dont want it to appear any other website? (i never posted on youtube so I dont know)

Youtube videos are offered to embed. If embed code is provided the content is fine to use provided you follow the terms of service from the service provider.
