Long story short...

Last 2 months of trying to get the FTP login details for my ex partner so she can again access her bundled webspace from her ISP has left her out of pocket in call cost to muppet services, sorry I mean customer "rip-off" services who do not seem to understand the issue or claim that they do not have her web site hosted by them but they can set up an account for her to the tune of £100...

To grab the site, so far I have found a web thread on ubuntu that says you...

wget -m http://thenameofyoursite.co.uk

Question is, where does it stuff the data as it will need uploading to a new web host as soon as the content is grabbed and a new hosting account is set up with a pro web host and not the flyby night operation called Virgin Media.

Any pointers, comments, links to linux based tools if this is the wrong route to go down?

httrack is available for window, OSX, unix, linux & bsd.
works ok. i have used it on windows, kubuntu and openSUSE without problems.
the thing to remember is that it is spidering the site and downloading what would be presented to a browser... php and cgi scripts will not be downloaded... just the output

Well thats not a problem for two reasons, first being that its a static html site and secondly after what my EX has just chewed my ear off over, I washed my hands of the issue...

You try to help people but if they aint listening... you can not help them.

Between Virgin Media, Names Co. and a lack of understanding in general about computers and how things work in the world of Internet from herself, were in a situation where her site can not be accessed despite many hours of calling Virgin Media and them putting the phone down on her.

I have given up trying to explain to her as its like trying to teach a chimp to do brain surgery, just impossible. I was going to help her sort out a web host, transfer domain and set up software... I have a better response from talking to a reinforced concrete wall.
