Keep footer at minimum height but expand if necessary

Hi,

I have a simple footer that is a repeating x background image 50 px in height. Some page have little content and some page have lots. I want a way to postion the footer so that it will not rise above a minimum hieght but will expand if content requries it too. How to you do this?
