I have installed Visual Web developer recently. It seems like a good solution and a nice way to build websites and data driven sites. Some very good sites have been done with it and some very successful ones as well.
But there is visual studio, visual basic, visual web developer, you try to sort it all out and its a pile of vast things to make sense of!
There are plenty of help videos etc online wich is great but its so much in so many different places youre not sure if you should be somewhere else or not !
Ive been told that Microsoft makes things harder than it has to be.
Maybe thats true maybe not. I am starting a .net cert course next week and wondering if I should have dived into php/mysql.
PHP is supposed to be easy to learn and much more powerful/flexable.
Im really wondering if I should turn tail and fast!
I would love someone more experienced to chime in and share their thoughts on Visual Web Developer!

If you want to build static websites with html, css, and javascript you could try other free html editors.
VWD EXPRESS is mainly for asp.net development....
However it is free and can be used as normal html editor.
you can find lots of tutorial videos here

These can be found at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/beginner/bb308786.aspx
The courses are divided into 3 triers from the basics over to the 'more advanced' programming
