Howdy.
PunkRockMonkey here. Just thought I'd throw in a "first post" to say hi to everybody and introduce myself.

I've been into computers since I was a kid (Commodore64, Amiga 2000, Apple IIc) and was well on a path to becoming a full blown nerd in the world of medical research.

A car accident in 1995 put me off my feet for a few months, and in that down time, I decided to pursue a career in programming (C/C++, DOS, COBOL II). I went for a 7-month certification program at the Computer Learning Center in San Francisco and got all A's... but wound up working my first job as an HTML coder in 1996. Back in '96 it was just plain ol' markup and that was it. Easy pickin's, right?

After that, I never worked in "programming" again... doing web site work until about a year ago. Most of my work was based on the front end, working with teams, and not getting too involved with the backend side of things. The Internet seems to have taken a turn towards programming with the advent of "Web 2.0/3.0" and my skillset doesn't seem to quite be up to speed with what employers are looking for these days (which is pretty embarassing after being in the business for almost 15 years.)

So, that's why I came to the site... to hopefully get some guidance in which direction I should be going, to pick up some fresh skills and maybe even a little inspiration along the way.

So there you go. There's my "Hello World" to the WebDeveloper.com forums! :)

Thanks!
