There is font-smooth (http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-font/#font-smooth-prop), but is not supported

This may not be applicable in your case, but there's also a 'cleartype' setting you can turn on that helps fonts look better, and I'm not sure, but I think it's particularly relevant for flat panel monitors.
Right click on the desktop background, choose "appearance" tab, then click the 'effects' button. Look for the 'use following method to smooth screen fonts' and set it to 'cleartype'.
