I've a problem

I'm new here but i don't found any induction myself. So i straight forward here for my problem. Few days ago my computers video file with .wmv opened in storm codec software but suddenly electricity has gone after came i opened my pc and tried to view .dat file but i could not opened it. Still i faced this problem. Can anyone help me?
Note:i'm using two OS xp and ubuntu.
