You really should think about using CSS for layout, rather than tables... Now is the time to learn, before you pick up too many bad habits. Take a look at http://www.w3schools.com/css/ and the articles at http://www.alistapart.com/.

Also, you might be able to find a sample layout close to what you are trying to make at one of these sites:
