I have been given some images/art work which was created by Quark on a Mac.

I cannot open these images as firstly i do not have Quark on my PC and secondly i do not have a Mac?!

The images have a representing icon in the shape of a Microsoft Office Document Imaging File!

So as i have Microsoft Office Document Imaging as part of Office 2003, i tried to open one of these images but to no avail!?

Error message appears - "Unable to open File - E\images\image1.tif. Check filename and permissions."

Also there is an additional folder named fonts.

Each font within this folder should have an associated image with it, but it does not?!

Would i need Quark for a PC to open them?

Or is there another way?

I hope someone can help please?

Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't have any trouble opening a mac image file with the right software. Do you have Adobe Photoshop? It should open a .tif with NO trouble. If you don't have that, MS Office still may open it. Here is the key: you can't "double-click" the icon. You have to open MS Word, and then PLACE the picture with the picture tool. If your file truly is a .tif, you should'nt have any trouble with that. I hope that helps.

As far as the fonts go. Quark collects the file for output when asked. The person suppling the file may have collected the file for output, and as a result, you now have the fonts. They may be Mac fonts. If they are, I don't think you can use them. However, if they are TTF fonts or OpenType, you should be able to drag the fonts into your C:/WINDOWS/FONTS/ folder. This should install the fonts, and make them usable in your other apps.

Good luck!

Hi Kedrhodes.

I have tried what you suggested but still M/soft word will not open the Mac images!

After opening M/soft word i selected Insert > Picture > From File and tried to open an image but error message appeared.

I also tried to open the images in Adobe Photoshop but still not opening.

I hope there is something else i can try?

Thanks you..

Are you sure the file is a .tiff ? Or did someone rename it to a tiff. I ask because Quark files do not end with .tif however, you can change the extention on the file on the PC. If someone has done that, the file will be broke for good. The mac doesn't add file extentions automaticly, like the pc. I deal with this all the time. I get a file called "image" and I have no idea what kind of file it is... so I make a copy of the file, and rename it to "image.tif" The PC doesn't know better, and just does it. So, if the file is NOT a .tif my applications wont open it. And that my friend is why I created a copy of it. I repeat the process until I get the correct extention. EG. .qxt .tif . jpg .gif .ai .psd .fh10 and so on.

I hope that helps.

Hi Kedrhodes.

I am 100% sure the files are .tiff

Unfortunately i still could not open the files.

I have managed to find the person who created these images and explained everything to him.

I hope to now get a copy of the images for a PC.

Thanks so much KedRhodes, much appreciated!!
