I've got a site, which I have added to google through its site submission page. Which is good cos now if you search the site in google it finds it but only for both words in the url (lune literature). I've had a look at google's keyword tool but don't really get it haha! I'm quite new to this site of web development.
I don't normally do this end of things, but I wanted to know what the best way for a site which will have weekly increases in content should go about increasing its ranking on google etc.
Also I'd like to know if there are any other good, free ways to help site promotion? The site is a blog and can be found at L.U.N.E (luneliterature.co.uk)
Thanks kindly for your time,
Aravona

I think a blog should be updated more than once a week. A regualr website does not have to be updated more than once a week.
When I have added a new post to my blog I usually do a daily check to see when the post is indexed and as soon as it is I add a new post and so on.
This pleases the bots that are coming and makes sure Google give love to my blog. Its all about making the bots happy.

Well its a book review site, so the books need reading and then the reviews writing so currently once a week is all we can manage (2 man team one BA in Creating Writing, one FD in Computing!)
What do you mean by checking when they are indexed? Can you clarify that a bit please :)
I've noticed googles crawler has left really old info on the main site when you search in google but most people say just wait and it will update that. (Looks very unprofessional atm)
We're publising ourselves on facebook with a group - and doing competitions etc to move members from one to another. How do you go about getting your blog 'out there' ?
Thanks for the advice,
Aravona

As for the updating, you can try a strategy that provoke your readers to leave comments. So you'll have your content updated regularly. :)
"checking when they are indexed" means that you check every time whether Google indexed your post or not. And when it has indexed it, you publish another one. Quite simple scheme.

Ok I think I'm getting it, sorry I'm such a numpty!
When I look at the link on google it says it 'cached' it on the 9th, would this be when it was last indexed?
If it is then its waaay out of date (showing the test blog entry still) and not showing all the stuff (full blog entry and 4 comments) posted since then? Is it because we just cleared the text from the old blog without deleting + posting a new one? Its also still showing links for some deleted posts.
Thanks for the help :)
Aravona,
Also if anyone has a good site explaining how to set up keywords I'd love to see it :)

Ahh ok, well titles I know about, but the site is run by Wordpress which uses a PHP function to alternate the index.php title based on page/post. And due to the nature of the site, these are generally short n sweet.
As far as I've read... using a <meta> tag will give the same effect as you have said for the <title> tags?

Its not necessary to submit to search enginges, they find you. Just bookmark your content to the major bookmarking sites and you are indexed within hours.
Meta title is the title tag he is talking about. Forget meta keywords, but make a good meta desription, thats what people see when your site is ranked.

I want to some off-site optimization tactics for website promotion like - social bookmarkings & networking resources, article submission, press releases, blog postings & commenting, forum signature and exchanging links with relevant sites is also helpful.

You got to learn and implement the best SEO standards. Research, gather information, compare, evaluate and draw up a plan. you can do it free of cost, provided you spend the time in drafting the plan and implementing it by yourself
Good wishes

Thank you for your replies. I'm very greatful, but can someone seriously point me to a good site? I'm getting 0 stuff on google which isnt then ... contradicted by another site which is further contradicted by the next site. Nothing seems to be conformed where I'm looking, nor do they explain how they help your site.

Everyone would like an increase in traffic to their website or an increase in their PR rating. There are many companies and websites offering promotion and optimisation services, however how much should you spend?
I have found two ways; which have had a huge impact in the amount of visitors I have to my websites and of which has pushed up the PR ratings of my sites.
Firstly writing articles. Writing articles like this one and submitting to article directories is a way of spreading your message across the internet. Other webmasters download your article and add it as valuable content to their website. This not only gives you free advertising on their site, but also creates a backward link for your website. Over time these links start to add up.
Secondly is a link exchange program. I have many websites in my portfolio and am able to offer a free link exchange program. I add a link to the bottom of my homepage to ten of my sites, with your chosen link text. In return I ask you to add a link on the bottom of your homepage to ten websites of mine.
Thanks.

See thats a kinda problem for me as I've only got the one site.
We're getting some traffic, we've got some unique visiters (not bots) and our bandwidth is being eaten up a bit, but its not quite progressing how we wanted it to.

Yes you can promote your site for free through blogging, article submission, forum participation and blog commenting. You can also find other ways to do so but these are major tactics .

We've set ourselves up on twitter now. When we start auto-updating it with a wordpress pluging hoping to get some traffic. We got followers without even adding content, but thats normal for twitter so I read.

One of the biggest challenges is generating traffic to a web site. It takes some researching for ways to drive free traffic to your website. Of course there are lots of strategies to promote a website. And one of the best ways to get traffics is through forum postings.

I think the best think you can do to increase the ranking of any site is backlink building, plus optimize the content on your site
