IE pushing content down

Dear all,

IE pushes the main content of my pages down the bottom of the page once the page is too small. The page layout is:
[sidebar][main:float-left]

I know my code will help debug this, but is there a know IE fault that pushes content down the page if the page is too small?

Which version of IE ? They each utilise CSS differently, IE 6 being the first to fully use it, IE7 to be completely useless, and IE8 actually works pretty well.

So which is it? :)
