Help! I'm at my wits end. I have developed what I think are web pages
from MicroSoft Publisher that I would like to transfer on to the web.

I have a registered domain name, and contacted a web host. Initially,
I received server name and IP address, but he did not walk me through
what is needed to transfer my files. I'm told that I need a web developer
who will adequately and correctly make my pages acceptable to the
web and will go through all the steps necessary to get them published
to the Internet

That's pretty much it. Publisher files aren't web pages. Moreover, web pages and publisher pages are completely different animals. If you want that locked-down feeling that you get with desktop publishing--if you want that page to look the same for everybody--then you don't want a web page. Better to convert to PDF and post those.

WordPad, Word, Publisher and even the infamous FrontPage should NEVER be used for web pages. They guarantee that your web pages will NOT be cross-browser compatible because of all the Microsoft Schema code it adds. Only IE and Maxthon understand this code. Additionally, FrontPage requires server extensions be installed to work correctly.

If you want to make a web site, I suggest you try using web templates that are easy to install.
